Using BRO

Everything here is free, and stays on your phone.

Get ready to be seen

Four short steps, about five minutes, and you walk in with one clear summary.

  1. On the home screen, tap Get ready to be seen.
  2. What's this appointment? Choose First time about this, and add what it's about if you like.
  3. What's been happening? Tick the symptoms this appointment is about. Type to find any you haven't added yet.
  4. What I want to say and ask. Write what you most need them to know, and add your questions.
  5. What goes in my summary. Tick or untick, then tap See my summary.
  6. Tap Share or save as PDF to take it with you, then I'm done โ€” save this summary. Nothing leaves your phone until you share it.

After my appointment

What was said, what happens next, and whether your questions got answered.

  1. On the home screen, tap After my appointment.
  2. Which appointment? It's usually picked for you. If you'd booked it in BRO, tap Yes, I went.
  3. What do you remember? Type it, or tap Record a voice note, before it fades.
  4. Did we address it? Mark each question Answered, Partly, Not discussed or I need to follow this up. Anything not answered goes with you to your next appointment.
  5. What happens next. Add what you were told, the next step, and any change to your medication.

Jot it down

Catch something while it's fresh, and sort it later.

  1. On the home screen, tap Jot it down.
  2. Write what's happening, in a word or a sentence. Or tap Record a voice note.
  3. Tap a number under How bad? if you like.
  4. It goes in your doctor summary, unless you switch on Keep this just for me.
  5. Tap Save. It's kept with the date and time.

Voice notes

For when you'd rather talk than type.

  1. On the home screen, tap Jot it down.
  2. Tap Record a voice note and talk.
  3. Tap Stop recording when you're done. Play it back in the list underneath. The audio never leaves your phone.
  4. After an appointment, you can record one in What do you remember? too.

Tell your story

Say the whole thing, your way. No forms, no order.

  1. On the home screen, open All your rooms and tap My story.
  2. Write it however it comes out. A few lines or a few pages. There's no wrong place to begin.
  3. Come back and add to it whenever you like.
  4. With Premium, tap Sort my story into my record and BRO picks out the details and offers to put them in the right places.

Note a symptom

Find it in a few letters, or say it your way.

  1. Open All your rooms and tap Symptoms.
  2. Start typing in Type to find it and tap the one that fits. Or open a group and tick what you're noticing.
  3. Not there? Add it just as you said it.
  4. Answer a few short questions, like when it started.
  5. Mention a symptom in Jot it down or your story, and BRO asks: tap Add it or No, leave it.

Appointments

What's coming, what's happened, and the questions you want answered.

  1. Open All your rooms and tap Appointments & tests.
  2. Booked something? Under What's coming, tap Add something coming up and choose Appointment, Test or scan or Procedure.
  3. Write down the questions you want answered. Afterwards you can mark what got answered.
  4. For one you've already had, tap Add under What's happened.

Tests, scans and letters

Bloods, imaging, procedures, and your letters in one place.

  1. Open All your rooms and tap Appointments & tests. Under What's happened, tap Add, then Test or scan or Procedure.
  2. For letters and results, tap Letters & documents in All your rooms, then Add files. PDFs or photos.
  3. They stay on your phone, ready when someone asks "have you had that done?"

Medications

What you take now, and what you've tried before.

  1. Open All your rooms and tap Medications.
  2. Under Taking now, tap Add a medication. Add the name, the dose, how often you take it and what it's for.
  3. Under Tried before, tap Add a past medication. What didn't work matters just as much.

Family history

What runs in your family, ready for a new referral.

  1. Open All your rooms and tap About me.
  2. Under Family history, tap Add a relative, then add what they had and their age when it was found, if you know it.
  3. Don't know? Tap I don't know my family history. That's an answer too, and it counts.

My picture

What BRO has noticed across everything you've recorded.

  1. Open All your rooms and tap My picture.
  2. You'll see What this could mean, What may go together and What's changing over time.
  3. These are patterns in what you wrote, not a diagnosis. They're there to help you ask the right questions.

Safety warnings

Always on, always free. Nothing to switch on.

  1. Just use BRO as normal.
  2. If you record something that shouldn't wait, BRO tells you straight, and how soon to get it seen.
  3. It points you to your local emergency number wherever you are, and never tells you what you have.

Save a copy, or delete it all

Your data, your call.

  1. Scroll to the bottom of the home screen and tap Your data โ€” save a copy, restore, delete.
  2. Tap Save a copy of my data. Add a password if you'd like, tap Save backup, and keep the file somewhere safe.
  3. Changing phone? Tap Restore from a backup on the new one.
  4. Delete all my data removes everything, voice notes included.

Premium ยท optional

Big Bro and Premium

Big Bro is the AI companion inside Premium, for when you'd like a hand. Premium also adds Episodes and readings, Follow-up, and Sort my story. Before anything leaves your phone, you see exactly what would be shared, and you decide.

Work out what to ask

Talk an appointment through before you go.

  1. On the home screen, tap Big Bro, then Work out what to ask. It's in Get ready too: Help me work out what to ask.
  2. Tell Big Bro what the appointment is about and what you want from it.
  3. You'll see What you're about to share. Add anything that's offered, or switch off what you'd rather keep back.
  4. Tap Send. Personal identifiers are removed first.

Explain a word or phrase

Any term from your letters or records, in plain English.

  1. On the home screen, tap Big Bro, then Explain a word or phrase.
  2. Type the word or phrase, just as it's written in your letter.
  3. Check what you're about to share, then tap Send.

Understand my last appointment

What was said, in plainer terms.

  1. Go through After my appointment first, with what you remember and what you were told.
  2. At its last step, Make sense of it, tap Understand what was said. Or on the home screen, tap Big Bro, then Understand my last appointment.
  3. Check what you're about to share, then tap Send.

Episodes and readings

One tap when it starts, one tap when it stops.

  1. Open All your rooms, tap Symptoms, then Episodes and readings.
  2. Tap Add an episode or reading and name it, like "back pain" or "headaches".
  3. Choose Something that comes and goes, or A number you check.
  4. When it starts, tap It's happening now. It shows under Running now on your home screen.
  5. When it stops, tap It's stopped. Add the detail later.
  6. For a number, like your blood pressure, tap Add reading each time you check.

Follow-up since my last appointment

A follow-up that doesn't start from the beginning again.

  1. On the home screen, tap Get ready to be seen.
  2. At What's this appointment?, choose Follow-up.
  3. Add the Date of your last appointment, or leave it blank to cover everything since you started.
  4. Carry on through the steps. Your summary shows what's changed since then.

Big Bro never diagnoses. Big Bro only ever sees what you choose to send for that one question, with personal identifiers removed, and nothing is stored.

Don't wait until it's bad. Be ready.
